'Free' Education??

I need to express my thoughts about Education. Where in the US constitution does it say the federal government can dictate what my children learn in school? How is it ok for textbooks to change history? My children will not learn the true history of our nation unless I teach them on my own. Now, I have the time and desire to do that. I also have the ability. However, there are many parents who have neither the time nor the inclination to do so. What sort of history do you suppose the children in those situations learn? I’ll tell you; they learn the politically correct, liberal version taught in our public school system. They learn that Columbus was a butcher, that WWII was fought for the wrong reasons and that we, as a nation, are unexceptional.

I don’t know about you, but that is NOT ok with me! It is past time for us to stand up and reassert our God given rights! The Federal government did not give us our rights! It is the job of the federal government to protect those rights! No law passed by congress that interferes with our rights should be allowed. We cannot continue to sit back and let politicians run our lives from Washington D.C.

Someone once told me that Barack Obama was elected for a reason. I was bowled over by that. I know the person who said that voted for him and thinks he is doing a good job. I’ve thought about that statement and have come to realize that she was right. He was elected for a reason, a very specific one actually. He is demonstrating to those of us who believe in the Constitution that we must stand up and fight. Every politician in the US works for you and I! They need to be reminded of this simple fact.

The time has come to end our complacency and step up to the plate. I know how easy it is to just let things happen. We feel like what happens in DC has no direct impact on our lives. We are wrong! Every little thing they do has an impact. Every dollar they spend is a dollar taken from us that could be used to benefit our lives or the lives of those we love.

Now back to education. Sorry about that little tangent.
I’m blessed to live in Wyoming where we still have some say in how our schools operate. There is still far too much that we cannot control or even have a say in. Public schools are meant to be operated by individual states, not the federal government. There is nothing in the constitution that allows them to fund, operate nor to determine the curricula of, our schools.

The federal government needs to GET OUT OF OUR SCHOOLS!

HEALTHCARE

This is my first post so I decided to discuss something that for me, seems pretty cut and dried.

All the talk in Washington about healthcare reform fails to address one key element; the Constitution.

I agree that we need some reforms in the health insurance industry. It would be relatively simple for Congress to write legislation that would allow citizens to purchase health insurance from ANY company. This would promote competition thus lowering the cost. That would go far in making insurance more available for all.

Now, the Constitution. I spend a considerable amount of time studying the Constitution and other Founding documents. Not a single line in any of them gives the Federal Government the power to force citizens to purchase health insurance, nor does it give it power to control or administer health insurance. It is very simple!

Article one; section 8: Powers of Congress
The Congress shall have the power to lay and collect taxes, duties, imposts and excises, to pay the debts and provide for the common defense and general welfare of the United States. (bold my own)

Many of those who feel the Government should take over healthcare use this as their justification. This in no way allows for the plans outlined in Congress. Very clearly this section allows for the general welfare of the United States! Not individual citizens, and absolutely not for illegal immigrants!
